William John Williamson passed away on Thursday, August 26th, 2010 in Altamonte Springs, Florida. He was born on October 4th, 1922, to James Frederick and Loretta McDermott Williamson in Versailles Borough, Pennsylvania. Bill (NeverBetter) graduated from McKeesport High School, PA, and the University of Pittsburgh. He worked as a division head for US Steel Christie Parks Works during World War II. In 1948 Bill came to Harris County, Texas, and served as a Deputy Sheriff for the Harris County Sheriff's Office. While in Houston he met Margaret Jane Staffa from Newgulf Texas and they were married on Sept. 16th, 1950. William then went to work for BMA Corporation, and later Transamerica, which he retired from in 1997. In 1956 Bill moved his family to Puerto Rico, founding the first American Insurance Company on the island. After returning to Houston, Texas in 1962 and working for BMA, he moved to Denton in 1965 which became his true home. From that time until 1997 he worked for Transamerica until his retirement. Always interested in serving and supporting public service, he worked for FEMA until 2005 during Hurricane Katrina. In 1973 Bill joined the Church of Latter-Day Saints in the Denton Ward, and rose to the rank of Elder. No matter what adversity, life event or tragic event, Bill had one thing to say when asked: Never Better. His positive outlook on life, his instructional and intuitional way with children and young adults was a model for all to follow. Bill was a staunch Lifelong Republican and a Life Member of the NRA and the Texas State Rifle Association. He was a very dedicated supporter of the Law Enforcement Community and opened his home and heart to the men and women of police and fire. The word Patriot embodied W.J. Williamson and his life.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. On Tuesday, August 31, 1020 at The church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 3000 Old North Rd. Denton with Bishop Trey Martino, officiating. Burial will follow in the Prairie Mound Cemetery in Argyle, TX The family will be at the Church for visitation on Tuesday from 10 A.M. until Service.
Bill was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Margaret Jane Staffa of Denton, in June 1997, and his son Mark Stephen Williamson in June 2010. He is survived by his wife of five years Rita Weidl Williamson of Lake Mary, Fla. and her loving family of thirty- five living in the Orlando Florida area. He is also survived by his only brother Clarence Kelly Williamson and wife Bibbi of Oxford, Ohio, his sister Mary Sims of Pittsburgh, PA, his son Guy Patrick Williamson and wife Teresa of Sanger, Texas, his daughter Lynne Williamson Behling and husband Paul of Murphy, Texas, his daughter-in-law Tracey McGowan, of Denton, TX grandchildren Emily Anne Williamson (Guy and Teresa), Carson William Housley, Meredith Paige Kelley and Kimrea Fellows Housley (Lynne and Paul), 17 nieces and nephews, one great grand-child, five great-nieces, and 2 great nephews at last count.
