WILLIAM NELSON WHITE
William N. White died Tuesday, June 26, 2012, in Denton, Texas at the age of 85. "Bill" was born in Elizabeth, NJ on October 30, 1926, son of Samuel W. and Sarah D. (Waters) White. The family moved to Eatontown, NJ in 1938 where he graduated from Long Branch High School and Monmouth University.
He served with a US Naval Intelligence Group during WWII, was based at Pearl Harbor then Guam, and was discharged in 1946. Upon his return from military service, he and Doris E. Scott from Shrewsbury were married in the United Methodist Church in Red Bank, NJ. Following his marriage he worked with Western Electric Company throughout NJ and neighboring States.
From 1968 to his retirement, Bill was employed by the U.S. Government, Department of Army; and with his family lived and worked in the United States (New Jersey, Hawaii, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Texas); in the Orient (Okinawa and Thailand); and in Europe (Germany) for many years. He was a life member of the American Legion Post 325, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 695, a past member of the Elks Lodge 1402, and the F&AM Lodge number 9.
Since retirement in 1987 Bill spent his winters in the Rio Grande Valley in Brownsville, and then Alamo, TX, and with Doris traveled extensively throughout the U.S. during the summer months. While in the Valley, he served as a volunteer with the Rio Grande Regional Hospital Auxiliary in McAllen, and for many years was associated with the Texas Department on Aging where, as a Certified Ombudsman, he advocated for residents' rights in Texas nursing home facilities.
In January 2002 Doris and Bill departed the Valley for Denton. In 2004 Doris and Bill moved to the Vintage Retirement Center, Denton, where Bill gained many new friends.
Bill is survived by one daughter, Patricia A. Paddack and husband Donald of Denton, one grandson Scott N. Paddack and wife Heather, and great-grandson Slade, all of Lake Dallas; one granddaughter Laurie A. Perez and husband Joe, great-grandson Tyler and great-granddaughter Lita, all of Aubrey, TX; one son, William N. White, Jr. and wife Shirley and one daughter Tracey L. White all of Maryland.
Preceding Bill in death was his daughter Barbara E. White in December, 1998; and his wife Doris in July, 2009. They both are sadly missed.
A family viewing, followed by cremation, took place in Denton, with later burial to be at the family plot in Evergreen Church Cemetery, West Plains, Missouri.
A Memorial Service will be arranged in the future at the Vintage for his Family and friends.
