Obituary

William B. (Mike) Stephens Sr. passed away on August 29, 2015 at Autumn Leaves Memory Care Facility. He was born March 7, 1920 in Denton, TX to Walter B. Stephens and Lora Mae McKee Stephens. He lived in Vernon, TX for a short time and returned to Denton in 1928. He attended Denton Public Schools and graduated in 1938. In 1939 he married Jean Kyle Stephens. Mike was employed as bookkeeper and warehouseman for Continental Oil Company several years before joining the Army Air Force. Upon his return from service, he was employed by the Federal Aviation Administration in Air Traffic Control, Fort Worth Center, and Plans and Programs for the Southwest Region.
Mike was a private pilot and loved to fly. He also loved to travel and spend time with his family. He was preceded in death by his son, William B. (Steve) Stephens Jr. He is survived by his wife Jean; daughter Pam Riney and husband Danny of Sanger, TX; son James Timothy (Tim) Stephens of Denton, TX; daughter-in-law, Irene Stephens of Green Oaks, IL; grandchildren, Jennifer Edwards (Erik Magana) of Denton, TX, Brian Edwards of Denton, TX, William B. (Billy) Stephens III of Green Oaks, IL.; two great grandchildren, Nicolas and Emma Edwards. Also survived by nieces and nephews: Larry Frank and wife Susan of Denton, Darlene and Larry Horst of Sanger, Becky and Ed Chisenhall of Denton.
A visitation will be held from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Sunday, August 30, 2015 at the funeral home. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM Monday, August 31, 2015 in the chapel of Mulkey-Mason Funeral Home, 705 N. Locust, Denton. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Volunteer Council at the Denton State Supported Living Center or to a charity of your choice.
The family wishes to express their deepest appreciation to the staff at Autumn Leaves and to Stephanie Hubbard for the wonderful care that Mike received.
