Obituary

William W. (Bill) Flessa, Jr., age 87, recently of Joshua, TX and formerly of Valley View, TX passed away on Sunday, February 25, 2024 surrounded by his loving family.

Bill was born November 13, 1936 to William W., Sr. and Anna Retta Sarah Taylor Flessa at St. Louis, Oklahoma, Magnolia Camp, the eighth of nine children and the only son.

After graduating from St. Louis High School in 1955 he moved to Taft, California and started a career with Standard Oil Company.  Later adding to his resume United Technology Center, General Electric, and Forney International.

After being drafted in 1960 he served in the U. S. Army in Germany during the Cold War being extended during the Berlin Crisis in 1961. He was honorably discharged in 1962.

He met his wife of 60+ years, Emma Flack-Peddersen, in San Jose, California, and they married July 13, 1963, and raised a son, Zane and daughter, Kam.  He was involved in all their activities whether it was YMCA flying kites or 4H & FFA hauling cattle and kids to show their animals.

Bill was a "jack of all trades, master of none", but in his retirement had a passion for woodworking with precision and attention to detail.

With eight sisters, an abundance of nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews, who called him "Uncle", were the recipients of his quiet, gentle, giving nature.  A man of few words, reserved, with a smile as big as Texas and a twinkle in his eyes that could light up the room.

Bill was proceeded in death by his parents, and his eight sisters: Lillie Belle Stewart, Beatrice Gammel, Opal Greathouse, Doris Clour, Lee Garrett, Jeanie Bishop, Phyllis Stewart and Anna Retta Stacy and their spouses.

He is survived by his faithful and loving wife, Emma; son, Zane and wife Julia Flessa, Frisco, TX; daughter, Kam and husband Mike Thedford, Joshua, TX; 5 grandchildren Chance (Adree) Thedford, Andrea (Corey) Shackelford, Paden (Cameron) Thedford, Madelin (Steven) Wheeler, Taylor (Christian) Fritz and 10 great-grandchildren: Easton, Walker, Kaiden, Emersyn, Coy, Slade, Tate, Ryan, Sutton and Archer.

Graveside services will be held Wednesday, February 28, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at Roselawn Memorial Park, 3801 Roselawn Drive, Denton, TX with Brother Rob Hively, New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, Valley View, TX officiating. Arrangements are with Mulkey-Bowles-Montgomery Funeral Home, Denton, TX.
