William H. Baskin, 96, went to be with our Lord Jesus Christ, November 23, 2019
His second wife, Beckie, his loving daughters Kathleen Smith and Susan Baskin, and grandson Andrew Miles were by his side.
He was a resident of Lake Forest Village in Denton, TX since 2007. He was born in Artesia, NM to William and Corine Baskin. Lived near Nogales, Arizona as a small boy. He had a favorite picture with a dog who kept the snakes and scorpions away.
He grew up in Port Arthur, TX, graduated from Thomas Jefferson Senior High. He was in his senior year of college at Agricultural and Mechanical College of Texas, working on his Aeronautical Engineering Degree, when he joined the U.S. Army Infantry. He served at Utah Beach, Normandy and marched across France. During WWll Bill received a Purple Heart and 3 Bronze Stars with Cluster on Purple Heart.
After returning from WWII, he returned to college and graduated from Agricultural and Mechanical College of Texas as an Aeronautical Engineer.
Bill said, "When the Korean war broke out, I dashed over and joined the Navy so I wouldn't be pulled back into the Infantry!" He worked on Aircraft design while in the Navy. During his time in the Army, he met Ernestine Waldrop with whom he enjoyed 64 years of marriage. They had two daughters, Kathleen and Susan and one grandson, Andrew.
His career included working at Convair, Lockheed Martin, Chance Vought,Ling-Temco-Vought (LTV), and he retired from Bell Helicopter.
After Ernestine passed away, Bill and Beckie began to spend time together. They married in July of 2011. They enjoyed being married and spent much time smiling and chuckling.
He was adored by all who met him. He spent the last five months in the Health Care Center ever ready for another walk in the sun.
He loved adventure, the great outdoors, The Boy Scouts of America, watching the SASS Cowboys, wearing hats he had collected from his accomplishments and adventures. He had many interest, which include history, especially aircraft and genealogy. He left a legacy of love, kindness, faithfulness and had a genuine interest in people.
There will be a service at DFW National Cemetery, on Friday January 24, 2020 at 3:30pm. Everyone is invited. Please RSVP to 903-216-5824.
