Wesley Ray Kelley, passed away on Wednesday, January 16, 2019 at Sonoma House Alzheimer's Care in Carrollton, TX.
Wes was born on February 16, 1934 in a railroad boxcar in Big Spring, Texas to Cecil and Opal (Whitlock) Kelley. Both Wes' father and grandfather were carpenters, and he learned that trade from them at an early age. He attended high school at Southwestern Assemblies of God University in Waxahachie TX. The day he graduated, he loaded everything he owned into his car and drove to Carlsbad, NM. He married Wanda Lee Williams on July 4, 1958 and recently celebrated their 60 th wedding anniversary. Wanda preceded him in death on October 17, 2018.
He is survived by, daughter, Kimberly Ream of Tulare, CA; sons, Warren Kelley of Corinth, Paul O'Kelly of Dallas, Craig Kelley of Keller, David Kelley of Killeen; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brother, Doyle Kelley of Albuquerque, NM; sister, Norma Jones of Lubbock; brother-in-law, Col. George Titus of Whitehouse Station, NJ.
Together, Wes and Wanda started Wesco Construction in Carlsbad, NM. The company started out, as Wes put it "with a handbox of tools fixing screen doors and kitchen cabinets." Together, they built Wesco into a successful business with over 350 employees. Wes and his wife were very active and involved in their church, Carlsbad First Assembly for many years. Wes never missed a service and was often one of the first to arrive and the last to leave.
In 1990, Wes and Wanda sold their business and dedicated the next twenty years of their lives to missions work in Mexico, working as construction missionaries. During that time, they built 80 churches, eight orphanages, six schools, four Bible school buildings, and many other buildings. Altogether they worked with 227 teams from the states to build 127 buildings in Mexico. They also did relief work, bringing food and clothing to some of the poorest regions in Chihuahua State, Mexico. During their time as missionaries in Mexico they were also very involved in their home church, Harvest Christian Center in El Paso.
After retirement, Wes and Wanda moved to Denton TX to be near family.
A visitation will be held from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM Sunday, January 20, 2019 at Mulkey-Bowles-Montgomery Funeral Home, 705 N. Locust, Denton. The funeral service will be at 10:00 AM Monday, January 21, 2019 at Thousand Hills Church, 3201A Tower Ridge Church, Corinth, TX. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park, Denton.
