Weldon Douglas McBride, 84, of Aubrey passed away on July 22, 2015 at the Medical Center of McKinney. Weldon was born on August 29, 1929 to George Douglas and Millie Inez Bauman McBride in Denton. He was a graduate of Denton High School.
He proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and during this time he was stationed in both France and Germany. Upon his return from service he found a lengthy and established career in the educational sector. He earned a B.S. in Industrial Arts on May 30, 1958. He also had Minors in Education and Social Science. He taught school in Waco, Texas for a year before finding himself closer to home teaching in Dallas and at Denton Junior High. Throughout his life he always felt the need to continue his education so he received a Masters of Education in Industrial Arts from UNT on August 24, 1965. He was elected to the office of what was then called the County School Superintendent from 1966 to 1979. He continued his work at the county level working for the Denton County Appraisal District. As he approached retirement he worked as an independent appraiser. He was always keeping himself busy!
Weldon valued and appreciated his time in the community. He was a Deacon at Old Alton Baptist Church. He was commissioner of the Men's Softball League. He was a proud member of the Denton Breakfast Optimist Club. He was also a member of First Baptist Church of Krugerville.
Weldon married his loving and devoted wife Brenda Joyce on March 23, 1991 in Denton. They enjoyed each other's company and were committed to one another. They also shared their love for their children and grandchildren that was beyond measure.
He was survived by his wife Brenda McBride of Aubrey, son Weldon Glen McBride and Ellen Ann McBride of Denton, daughter, Keitha McBride of Denton, Brian and Chris Ingram of Pilot Point, Sam and Leighann Moseley of Denton and sister Zeta Fae Carter of Denton.
Sweetly referred to as "Pops", Weldon was the proud grandfather of 7, Katy McBride of Denton, Andy McBride of Denton, Jeff McBride of Denton, Lindsey Cook of Oklahoma City, OK, Emily and Cari Ferguson of Denton, and Brianna Moseley of Denton. He was also blessed to have time with his great-granddaughters Kelsie Haggerty and Ella Grace Larin.
Weldon loved his family and they absolutely adored him. He was a strong man but was the most kind, gentle, sweet soul who only saw the good in people. He was more than willing to help anyone in need. He had a quiet grace. He loved throwing papers with his son and playing ball. He encouraged and supported his daughter in all things dance, Mr. Ghattis visits, and night rides. He continued his participation in recitals with his granddaughters as he did not miss one. In the quiet moments, he loved reading books to the girls specifically "Baby's Day Out". He rarely told any of the children and big kids "no". He loved driving his truck, having coffee on the Denton square, his little woodworking projects, and ice cream. His love and strength is within us all and reaches far. He will remain in hearts in the days and years to come. He will be forever missed. We love you.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Larry McBride.
