IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Wanda Jean
Yates
May 15, 1930 – February 3, 2024
Wanda Jean Yates was born to Floyd "Shorty" Young and Ruby Bolin Young on May 15, 1930 in the Lois Community in Denton County (Sanger, TX). Wanda attended high school at the NTSU Demonstration School and spent most of her life in Denton county. She passed away on February 3, 2024 in Frisco, Texas.
Wanda met (Clarence) Leon Yates on March 31, 1946 and they married in Little Elm, TX on January 15, 1947. She enjoyed retelling the story of the day she met him and how quickly she knew he was the one. They were proud parents of three daughters; Linda, Janice and Vickie. Those daughters brought Leon and Wanda seven grandchildren, six great grandchildren and years of memories.
Wanda chose to be a stay-at-home mom so she could teach her daughters and take care of them and Leon. After their daughters married, Wanda worked for seven years at the Department of Human Resources as secretary to the supervisor. Over the years, she enjoyed gardening, fishing, painting and most importantly; honoring her lord and savior, Jesus Christ.
Wanda and Leon were practically inseparable for almost 70 years, just 37 days shy, when Leon passed away in 2016. Others to precede Wanda in death were her parents, her brother Kenneth, daughters Linda and Vickie and her grandson Matt.
Wanda's funeral service will be at 11:00 AM on Friday, February 9, 2024 at Gateway Baptist Church (2401 North Bell Avenue, Denton, TX 76209), with Reverand Buddy Owens officiating. Visitation (10:00 AM) will precede the funeral service (11:00 AM), with both events held in the chapel at Gateway Baptist Church. Her burial will follow in the Cottage Hill Cemetery in Celina, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, Wanda requested donations to her cherished church, Gateway Baptist Church in Denton, TX.
