Wanda Lee Kelley, passed away on Wednesday, October 17, 2018 at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital in Denton TX.
Wanda was born on October 2, 1937 in Scottsville, Kentucky to M.A. and Ethelene Williams. The family relocated to Albuquerque, NM when she was still very young. She met her future husband, Wesley Ray Kelley, on a blind date that was set up by Wanda's sister and Wes' best friend. They were married on July 4, 1958 and recently celebrated their 60
th
wedding anniversary.
Wanda's life centered on her family. She is survived by her husband Wesley Ray Kelley of Denton; daughter, Kimberly Ream of Tulare, CA; sons, Warren Kelley of Corinth, Paul O'Kelly of Dallas, Craig Kelley of Keller, David Kelley of Killeen; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
Together, Wanda and Wes started Wesco Construction Company in Carlsbad NM, where she worked for many years as the bookkeeper. Wanda and her husband were very active and involved in their church, Carlsbad First Assembly for many years. There, Wanda taught Sunday School, mentored many young women through the church's girls program, was a leader in the women's ministry, and many other areas of the church. She served in civic roles as a Cub Scout den leader and president of the Carlsbad Area Art Association.
In 1990, Wanda and Wes sold their business and dedicated the next twenty years of their life to missions work in Mexico, working as construction missionaries. During that time, they built 80 churches, eight orphanages, six schools, four Bible school buildings, and many other buildings. Altogether they worked with 227 teams from the states to build 127 buildings in Mexico. They also did relief work, bringing food and clothing to some of the poorest regions in Chihuahua State, Mexico. During their time as missionaries in Mexico they were also very involved in their home church, Harvest Christian Center in El Paso.
After retirement, Wanda and Wes moved to Denton TX to be near family. Here her life centered on her family and her church, Thousand Hills Church in Corinth.
A visitation will be held from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM Sunday, October 21, 2018 at Mulkey-Bowles-Montgomery Funeral Home, 705 N. Locust, Denton. The funeral service will be at 10:00 AM Monday, October 22, 2018 at Thousand Hills Church, 3201A Tower Ridge Church, Corinth, TX. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park, Denton.
