Obituary

Virginia Dare (Ward) Hooper died at 4:26 a.m. on Thursday, July 19, 2007 in McKinney, Texas. She was born on September 17, 1919 in Mart, Texas. Virginia was the first of three daughters born to Tillman C. and Nannie Iva (Bullock) Ward. She attended schools in Victoria and Mart, Texas, graduating from high school in Mart in 1937. She attended Texas Wesleyan College in Fort Worth before being employed by a Denton Printing firm. Later in life she received her Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from Texas Woman's University in Denton, after which she was employed at the Denton State School and at Flow Memorial Hospital. At the time of her retirement, she was Director of the Denton School of Vocational Nursing. She was a long-time member of Highland Baptist Church and Rebekah Lodge No. 18 in Denton. She married Marian Harland Hooper in Hillsboro, Texas on October 4, 1951. Denton was their home for most of their married life, which was almost 59 years at the time of his death on July 10, 2000. At the time of Virginia's death, she was living in McKinney to be near her sister. Virginia was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Francis Kienitz. She is survived by a sister T. Carol Sedberry of McKinney; nephews Roby C. Barrett and wife Cheryl of McKinney, and Ted Kienitz and wife Donna of Hewitt; nieces Nancy Tidwell of Frisco and Kathy Wardlaw and husband Bill of Waco. The Hooper nieces and nephews were considered her own as well. Those are Lanny Hooper and Johnny Laird of Denton, Sharon Smith of Garland, Marilyn Rodriquez of Dallas, and Brenda Roach and David Hooper of Graham. Pallbearers will be Roby Barrett, Ted Kienitz, Lanny Hooper, Bill Wardlaw, Franklin Smith, Johnny Laird and Sully Rodriquez. The family wishes to extend special thanks to all who were so gracious and faithful in their caring for her, especially Donna Bluhm who has been a constant source of caring, also Joan Woodruff and Marie Brow. Funeral service will be at Mulkey-Mason/Jack Schmitz & Son Funeral Home in Denton on Friday, July 20, 2007 at 3 pm with Rev. Eddie Schafer officiating. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 1:30 to 3:00 pm on Friday just prior to the service. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park in Denton.
