Virginia Wooldridge Haggard, 87, was welcomed home to heaven on June 13, 2012 after a lengthy battle with Alzheimers. We are rejoicing today at her reunion with her family and friends and grateful to our Lord for the gift of eternal life through Him. Virginia was born in Jerome, Arizona on November 4, 1924 to Hugh Bradley and Stella Jones Wooldridge. She graduated from Lamar High School in Houston, TX and Sam Houston State University. It was while working at Baylor Medical Center that she met her husband, Scott. They were married in Houston on June 17, 1951. After internship, they made their home and medical practice in Denton in 1954.
Although always a mother and homemaker, Virginia spent many hours in her life volunteering. She held several offices in the Denton County Medical Society, the Auxiliary to Texas Medical Association, and the Flow Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. She was a sustaining member of the Denton Benefit League. She was probably most remembered for her tireless work costuming countless church musical programs at First Baptist Church-Denton, where she and her husband were affectionately known to most of the youth as "Doc and Maw". Another joy was planning, coordinating, and carrying out weddings receptions for a multitude of friends. She always called all of this "her ministry" and indeed it was. Her creative talents continued through her retirement years as she and her husband spent many years traveling in their motor home, but one of her cherished roles was that of Grandy to her two grandsons.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Sallie and Paul Baker of Weatherford; son, Scott Haggard, Jr. of Dallas, a sister, Bonnie Sue Wooldridge, of Houston, and two grandsons, Dr. Chris Baker and Clint Baker, both of Houston. She was preceded in death by her daughter Rebecca Quinn Haggard in 2006, and her husband, Scott in 2010.
Visitation will be at Mulkey-Mason Funeral Home, 705 N. Locust Denton on Friday, June 15 6-8 pm. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, June 16 at 11:00am at Restland Memorial Park in Dallas.
