Obituary

Vernice Doyle Taliaferro

Doyle Taliaferro passed away January 12, 2019 at the Corinth Rehab. Center in Corinth, Texas.  He was born in Denton, Texas on March 9, 1927 to Walter Vernice and Violet Lasley Taliaferro.  His wife Joyce Rae (Foster) Taliaferro predeceased him on November 29, 2013. They were married on December 31, 1950 and had been married for 63 years.  He had two older sisters Juanita Cox and Margaret Richey who predeceased him.  Doyle graduated Denton High School in 1945 and, like so many of his classmates, promptly joined the Navy at age 17.  He was privileged to serve in the Pacific during and after World War II.  After the Navy, he graduated from The University of North Texas with a BS degree and SMU with a MBA.  After he and Joyce married, he worked briefly with his father in the office supply business.  Over the years, he worked in a number of areas from being a rough neck in the Permian Basin to management consulting with the George S. May Company.  He retired in the 1990's after owning, along with Joyce, Preston Center Hearing Aids.   His hobby was dreaming of the next business deal or other endeavor he was going to pursue.  He was forever the optimist all the way up to his passing.  He rarely uttered a negative thought and remained positive throughout his life.  He was a faithful Christian believer and member of the Sherman Drive Church of Christ in Denton Texas.  His two sons and families survive him; Paul Taliaferro and his wife Cindy of McPherson, Kansas and Lasley Taliaferro and wife Laurie of Denton, Texas; two grandchildren, Nicole Taliaferro and Kyle Taliaferro both of McPherson, Kansas.

The family would like to thank the staff of Corinth Rehab for the loving care given both their father and mother during their time there.  Doyle was one of the longest in tenure at the residence and was cared for like family.  We would also like to thank Allyson McKee with Aspen Hospice for the wonderful care given dad.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests any donations in memory of their dad to go to either Harvey's Heroes (Cancer survivor fund) in care of Lasley Taliaferro at 2920 Bristol St, Denton, Texas 76209 or the Sherman Drive Church of Christ in Denton, Texas.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. Online condolences may be at www.mulkeybowlesmontgomery.com
