Velma Gertrude Rainey, 91,  of Denton, passed away Saturday, December 13,2008 at Senior Care Center.  She was born January 30, 1917 in Aubrey, TX to James Marvin and Mattie (Bray) Copeland.   She was married to Wilton Benson (Woody) Rainey, November 23, 1935 in Denton, and he died in 1988  She is retired from the J. C. Penny Company in 1982 and worked for Grandy's.  She is a member of the Gateway United Baptist Church.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 P. M. on Wednesday, December 17, 2008 in the Cooper Creek Baptist Church, with Rev. Buddy Owens, officiating. Burial will follow in the Cooper Creek Cemetery.  The family will be at the Mulkey-Mason, Jack Schmitz and Son Funeral Home, 705 N. Locust, Denton   for visitation from 6:00 P.M. until  9:00 P.M. on  Tuesday,, December 16, 2008.   Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association,  4144 N. Mrs. Rainey is survived by a daughter, Joyce Rainey Sexton, of Rehoboth Beach, DE  and a son and daughter in law Donald Wayne and Paula  Rainey, of Denton,  three sisters  Lucille Copeland Russell, of Richardson, TX  Lola Copeland Clark, of Farmers Branch, TX  and Billie Estelle Copeland Baker, of Dallas, TX, and  a brother James Ray Copeland, of Bethany, AL,  and Nine Grandchildren,  and Eleven Great Grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by  her husband and   a son Wilton Charles Rainey.
