Obituary

Ulrike Jaeckel, 69, of Denton, died Saturday August 16, 2008 at her home.

Dr. Jaeckel was born on July 15, 1939 in Berlin, Germany to Ernst and Walburga (Gaehtgens) Zinn. She was married to Martin Jaeckel on March 29, 1967 in Tuebingen, Germany.

She graduated from the Universitaet Tuebingen, Germany with a master's in the classics as well as a credential to teach Latin and Greek. She continued her education at the University of Illinois at Springfield with a master's and at the University of Illinois at Chicago with a PhD in rhetoric.

In 1968 Ulrike and Martin immigrated to the United States of America and began to raise their family. Dr. Jaeckel taught composition and rhetoric at Texas Christian University and then at the University of North Texas. She was a member of First Christian Church.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday August 30, 2008 at First Christian Church, 1203 North Fulton, Denton.

She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Martin Jaeckel of Denton; daughters, Anne Brosnahan and her husband Nick of Sunnyvale, CA, Clara Jaeckel of San Carlos, CA; sister, Franziska Haug and her husband Andreas of Muri, Switzerland; brother, Burkart Zinn and his wife Sonja of Tuebingen, Germany; sisters-in-law, Christiane Jaeckel of Indian Head Park, Illinois, Adelheid Walmsley and her husband John of Kendal, England, Monika Jaeckel and her wife Marieke of Amsterdam, Netherlands; brothers-in-law, Dietrich Rall of Mexico City, Mexico, Hans Jaeckel of Hamburg, Germany; and two grandchildren, Kellen and Kyra Brosnahan.

Ulrike expressed a wish that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to a charity that is important to the donor. Memorials may also be made to the American Cancer Society.
