Obituary

Timothy "Tim" Fred Tonkin, 75, was welcomed into the Kingdom of God

surrounded by family on June 4, 2023 after battling vascular dementia

with a recent onset of seizures. Tim was born on April 24, 1948 in Duluth,

MN to his parents, Kenneth Mason Tonkin and Lillian Marie Tonkin.

After graduating from Duluth East High School in 1966, he went on to

the University of Minnesota Duluth for one year.

Tim was a veteran who served during the Vietnam Era. During his time in

Fort Hood, he met the love of his life, Linda Stauffer, who he soon

married on June 14, 1969. Tim and Linda chose to settle in the town of

Duluth, MN, but quickly moved to Tulsa, OK for Tim to get his

Vocational Technical Degree in electronics. After finishing that he

accepted a position in Waco, TX with Riteway Radio, Inc. where he

learned avionics and later on became the owner of the company for 17

years until the company closed. He then went on to work for

Electrospace, Chrysler Technologies, and Raytheon Technologies all in

Waco. He took a position with Honeywell in Albuquerque, NM in 1998.

Tim & Linda returned to Waco, TX in October of 2004. In 2005, he took

another position with L3 and worked until he retired in 2013.

Tim was a force of nature, determined to provide for his family and give

them the life he felt they deserved. His family meant more to him than

anything else in the world, something he often mentioned. He was proud

of Thomas, Derek, and Linda and always tried his best to support them.

When he wasn't working, Tim had a passion for flying and listening to

Rush Limbaugh. Tim enjoyed Bible studies, air shows, and watching hot

air balloons. He loved trains and building model train tracks with and for

his sons. He treasured his family and friend time as well as encouraging

those around him, even sending out a daily email devotional that Linda

continues doing on his behalf. He also found great pleasure in his dog

Rusty as well as many other dogs throughout his life.

Anyone who knew Tim knew that he was the most loving father and

friend a family could ask for. He was predeceased by his parents, Kenneth

and Marie Tonkin. He is survived by his wife, Linda; son, Thomas and his

wife, Michelle; son Derek and his wife Julia; grandchildren, Bryce,

Brandt, Bella, Taylor, and Paul; brother, Tom and previous wife Laura;

sister, Karen Hoppe and her husband, Mike; brother-in-law, Curtis

Stauffer and his wife, Cheryl; two nieces and three nephews; several

great-nieces and great-nephews.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, please make contributions in

memory of Timothy Tonkin to the Dementia Society of America by mail

to PO Box 600, Doylestown, PA 18901, or online

www.DementiaSociety.org/donate or the charity of your choice. Tim

requested a cremation, so there will be a celebration of life service held at

2pm, June 27, 2023 at Highland Baptist Church Chapel, 3014 Maple Ave.
