TILLMAN ELLIS ULAND
Tillman E. Uland, 81, passed away Thursday, August 21, 2014, at Denton Presbyterian Hospital. He was born in Allen, Texas on February 11, 1933 to Ellis Lee and Dona Lee (Franklin) Uland. He attended Denton Public Schools, Cook County Junior College and the University of North Texas. On December 16, 1954 Tillman married Marjorie Rozell Scantland in Rockwall, Texas. It was a marriage that lasted 54 years until her death in 2008. On November 19, 2009 he married Linda Marie McLester in Denton, Texas. Together they have 25 grandchildren and One great grandchild.
Tillman served many years with the Denton Police Department and Air Force Reserve. He received many awards with the Air Force, including the coveted award of Air Force Commendation Medal. He received the Police Officer of the Year for the State of Texas while working for the D.P.D. He also supervised a Defensive Driving School that received several awards.
Tillman always said his biggest award was helping people of the Church; delivering Meals on Wheels, working at the Soup Kitchen and the VA Clinic. He requested that instead of sending flowers for his funeral, that you make a donation to the Singing Oaks Church of Christ's Food Bank.
Uland is survived by his wife Linda, sons Harry Uland of Rockwall, Larry Uland of Indiana, and Garry Uland of Denton; sister Inez Mixon of St. Louis, MO. He was also preceded in death by a brother. Charlie Ray Uland.
Following his philosophy of "Sing and be happy", Tillman requested that his service be made up of happy and joyful songs, and that those attending just wear everyday work clothes and be happy. Tillman always said that the Lord blessed him with so much, and that it was his prayer that "you all have the same through the Lord Jesus our Savior."
Family visitation is scheduled for 4-6 pm on Sunday, August 24 at Mulkey-Mason Funeral Home, 705 N. Locust in Denton. His funeral service will be held at 2 pm on Monday, August 25 at the Singing Oaks Church of Christ, 101 Cardinal St., also in Denton, with Ross Thompson officiating. Burial at Roselawn Memorial Park will follow.
Arrangements are handled by Mulkey-Mason Funeral Home in Denton.
