Thomas Alan Jones, known as Tom to many, passed peacefully with his family by his side on July 12, 2026, at the age of 69, after bravely facing the challenges brought on by West Nile Virus. His family is comforted knowing that he is now at rest and without pain.
Tom was born in Dallas, Texas on January 27, 1957, to Edwin Worth and Nelda Jones, the youngest of three children. He grew up in Lewisville, Texas where he developed a strong work ethic and deep love for his family and friends. He graduated from Aubrey High School in 1975 and remained in the area for many years, working in commercial construction.
A loving husband to Celia, Tom was a pillar of strength for his family. Together they raised their two children, Brandi and Bryan. He loved imparting knowledge onto his children with humor and humility, and spending as much time with them as possible, coaching Bryan’s youth baseball teams, taking them to UNT football games, Texas Rangers baseball games, family camping trips, and annual trips to the beach. His love of travel and experiencing all that life had to offer ran deep within, and that became very apparent in his retirement.
In 2019, Tom took what he would consider the trip of a lifetime. He and several friends drove from Aubrey, Texas to the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, California. From there they drove across the country, all the way to Key West, Florida. When they finally made it back to Aubrey, they had logged 9,600 miles, and for Tom, a great majority was on his beloved Captain America motorcycle.
He also enjoyed taking his annual Motorcycle Grand Tour of Texas, where he was able to see and learn about parts of Texas he may not have otherwise known about. It gave him great pride and sense of accomplishment to finish the tour each year. As soon as Tom returned from one journey, maps and dreams of the next were already unfurling on his kitchen table. Traveling was his poetry; the anticipation of new places and the retelling of his path brought him endless joy.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 42 years, Celia, his children, Brandi (Jonah) and Bryan (Brittani), his grandchildren, Jackson, Samantha, and Adeline, brother Gary (Tina), and his many cousins, nieces, and nephews, as well as an abundance of cherished friends who will remember his easy-going spirit and boundless generosity. His absence is felt in every quiet moment and every road untraveled. He will be missed beyond words.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Marcella Ettinger.
Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance and love at a visitation on Monday, July 20, 2026, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Mulkey-Bowles-Montgomery Funeral Home, 705 N Locust St, Denton, TX 76201. A graveside service to honor Tom’s remarkable life will follow on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Belew Cemetery, 9500 Belew Road, Pilot Point, TX 76258.
In lieu of flowers the family kindly requests memorial contributions be made in Thomas’s name to Belew Cemetery Association Board, Inc, P.O. Box 398, Aubrey, TX 76227 or the charity of your choice.
