Thomas B. "Brad" Gilbert, 88, passed away Tuesday, May 22, 2007 at Good Samaritan Village of Denton. Brad was born March 6, 1919 in Lamesa, Texas and was the son of Porter and Lovie Gilbert. He was a 1943 graduate of Texas Tech University and served in the United States Navy during World War II as a Lieutenant J.G. on the minesweeper USS Sheldrake.
Brad married Margaret Gibbs on June 11, 1948 in Lamesa, Texas. He was manager of McCall Drug in Lamesa before moving to Anton, Texas where he owned and operated Gilbert Drug for 24 years. Before retirement, Brad worked for McCarty Wholesale and Albertsons in Lubbock.
He was president of the Anton Business Club, Lions Club, Bulldog Booster Club and the Anton ISD School Board. Brad was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Anton and served as Methodist Men's President, Lay Leader and Trustee's Chairman.
Brad is survived by daughter Stacey and her husband Bill Cornelius of Denton, son Tom Gilbert and his wife Laura of Arlington, four grandchildren and spouses, Jeff and Christy Cornelius, Kristen and Shannon Namken, Jon and Stephanie Gilbert, and Andrew Gilbert and five great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 53 years, Margaret, grandson David Gilbert and sister Elwanda Weaver.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, May 28, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. in the chapel of Denton Good Samaritan Village at 2500 Hinkle Drive with Rev. Bill Bennett officiating.
