Obituary

John Arthur Thomas, 58, of Flower Mound, passed away suddenly August 9th, 2009 at his home in Flower Mound.  John was born March 9, 1951 in Denison, TX to William Kincaid and Dorothy Aina Thomas.  Although he will be greatly missed we know he is now in heaven helping God construct some new parks and trails, possibly even a dog park.

John graduated from Sherman High School in 1969.  From there he went on to attend Grayson County College, and then Southeastern College in Durant, Ok, where he received his Bachelor's degree in accounting.  John was very active in the Sherman Jaycees. And later was involved in the Carrollton Jaycees, and then the Flower Mound Jaycees. In Flower Mound he was also an active member of the PALS board and Summit Club.

After moving to Flower Mound he dedicated his life to serving the people of the town he grew to love.  He spent countless hours on the trails contemplating new ideas to make them better and more accessible to the people of Flower Mound.  His most recent discovery was Google maps, in which he was working to plot out the entire stretch of the Flower Mound trail system.  He also made many friends serving on the Summit Club.  As King of the Hot Dog Cookers he assisted in grilling thousands of hot dogs each year at various town functions, the largest and most important being the Independence Day Kiddie Parade.   He also had a passion for serving the Lord and acting, which he did through his participation in 8 Days.

John was a devoted and loving husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend.  He was a blessing to anyone who was around him.  John is survived by his wife, Donna Lee Thomas, of Flower Mound; daughter, Erin Michelle Thomas of Flower Mound; daughter's boyfriend, Brian Matthew James of Flower Mound; brothers, Andy Thomas of Sherman and Paul Thomas and his wife, Carmen of Gunter and nephew, Jackson Thomas; aunt, Lorell Dickerman of McKinney; Uncles: Bill Neinast of New Hope and Franklin Neinast and his wife, Joyce of Magnolia, Arkansas; mother-in-law, Verna Beasley of Flower Mound and many other relatives, friends and colleagues.

Visitation will be from 6-8pm, Wednesday, August 12th, 2009 at Mulkey-Mason Funeral Home, Lewisville.  Funeral service will be 10a.m., Thursday, August 13th, 2009 at Lakeland Baptist Church in Lewisville with Pastor David Williams and Pastor Donny Forson.  Interment will follow in the Flower Mound Cemetery.

Memorial contributions can be made in John's name to the Summit Club, John Thomas Memorial Fund, First Security Bank, 1801 Cross Timbers Rd., Flower Mound, TX 75028. This money will go directly to help his passion, the parks and trails of Flower Mound, TX.
