Sybil Christine Elkins, of the Berthoud/Longmont, Colorado area, formerly of Denton, died Wednesday, October 19, 2005 in Colorado. She was 79 years old. Sybil was born December 1, 1925 in Port Arthur, Texas, to Homer Franklin Perkins, Sr. and Uella (Christian) Perkins. After graduating from high school and attending business college, Sybil married Guy L. Elkins on August 3, 1946 in Port Arthur. The couple had lived in Tucson, Arizona and El Paso, Texas before settling in Denton, Texas in 1967. Mrs. Elkins had worked for many years as a secretary in the public schools in the towns in which she lived. She retired after nearly 20 years with the Denton school system. She had been a member of the Church of Christ in Denton and in Longmont, and enjoyed her Christian friends. Mrs. Elkins also enjoyed playing tennis, oil painting and fitness walking. After their retirement, Sybil and Guy enjoyed traveling and sightseeing in their camper. Her family remembers her as a woman who took pride in her work and was a truly happy person. She moved to Colorado in 1998, and had been a resident at Wellspring Alzheimer's Residence since 2003. She is survived by a sister, Elaine Dohrmann of Houston, Texas; two brothers, Homer Franklin "Frank" Perkins, Jr. and his wife, Lillian, of Huntsville, Alabama, and Dennis Gene Perkins and his wife, Judith Ann, of Berthoud, Colorado; eleven nieces and nephews and numerous grandnieces and grandnephews. Mrs. Elkins was preceded in death by her husband in March 1995; by her parents; and by a brother-in-law, Melvin Dohrmann. Visitation was held on Monday, October 24,2005 from 10 A.M. until 12 Noon. Graveside services will be held at Roselawn Memorial Park in Denton, Texas at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, October 24, 2005. Don Mitchell will officiate.
