Suzanne Tawny Holt

December 4, 1945 – December 7, 2020

Suzanne (Suzy) Tawny (DeGaw) Holt, entered eternal life on December 7, 2020.  Suzy was born on December 4, 1945 in Beverly Hills, CA to Boyce and Dorothy (Hereford) DeGaw.  She was married for 46 years to Judd Brooks Holt III, who predeceased her on August 22, 2017.

After earning her Master's in Education at North Texas State University, Suzy worked for the Denton Independent School District as a teacher and a counselor.  Donnie Holt, with whom she worked at Newton Rayzor Elementary School, introduced her to her son, Judd Holt III.  Judd asked her out on a date, and she accepted.  Suzy and Judd immediately hit it off.  Judd proposed to her and five months later they were married.

After Judd graduated from law school in San Antonio, Judd and Suzy had their first son Josh.  Shortly thereafter, they moved to Wichita Falls and had two more sons, Judd IV and Jonathan.  When the great tornado hit Wichita Falls in 1979, the Holt family was eager to "get out of town".  Always having faith that "things would work out", Judd and Suzy picked up their family and moved back to Denton, where they started a brand new life.  There they raised their three amazing sons and established a network of amazing lifelong friends.  She started anew 6 years ago, moving on her own to a new home, and yet again establishing another network of amazing neighbors and friends.  All the while, her home was blissfully full of her beloved shiz tsu's.

Suzy will be remembered by so many.  She will be remembered by her family as a devoted and loyal wife; as a dedicated, understanding and loving mother; as a playful, affectionate and adoring grandmother.  She loved her family unconditionally, fiercely and outwardly and they all loved her the same in return.  She will be remembered by her friends as a passionate volunteer, a Jazzercise partner, an active church member, who understood that her friends were an extension of the Holt family.   She will be remembered by ALL as one who gave more than she received, who ALWAYS had her door open for family and friends alike, and who embodied inner strength and grace.

Suzy is survived by her first son, Josh Holt, his wife Michelle, and children, Caleigh, Connor, Corb, and Scout; her second son, Judd Holt IV, his wife Kerry, and their children, Judd V and Ashley; and her third son, Jonathan Holt, his wife Ivonne, and their children, Sidney, Anna, Aidan, and Sofia.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation in Suzy's memory to the First Christian Church Memorial Fund (1203 North Fulton, Denton, TX 76201) or a donation in Suzy's memory to Denton Community Food Bank (306 N. Loop 288 Suite 400, Denton, TX. 76206)

A celebration of Suzy's life will be held at a later date.
