Stacy "Dusty"
Rhodes
June 13, 1933 – October 20, 2020
Stacy "Dusty" Rhodes, 87, longtime Austin Area resident (Pflugerville, Round Rock &
Georgetown) passed away on October 20, 2020 in Denton, Texas as a result of
complications from a stroke & lung cancer. Despite his failing health issues, he had a
positive outlook on life and would say "it is what it is".
Dusty, was born on June 13, 1933 in Wilmington, North Carolina. He graduated from
New Hanover High School in Wilmington in 1952. After graduating from high school he
enlisted into the Air Force in 1953. Unbeknown to him, the Air Force would provide him
a career & a journey that would reshape & impact the rest of his life & that of his family.
He was a patriotic veteran who served for 21 years in the Air Force as an Intelligence
Analyst. He was highly decorated & recognized for his technical skills & knowledge by his
superiors in the Air Force & other branches of service. He was proud to represent &
serve our country all over the world (Tokyo, Japan; Paris, France; Saigon, Vietnam;
Naples, Italy; Panama, Canal Zone) to multiple places in the USA. He retired with the
rank of Master Sergeant. After his military career, he was a longtime car salesman in the
Austin area for 13 years & a real estate broker/agent in the Austin, Round Rock &
Georgetown area for 30+ years.
Dusty, met Julia Bapp from Roswell, New Mexico in 1953. They had three children Julie
Harris of Amarillo, Mike Rhodes of Haslet, and Mia Gentry of Flint, Texas.
He was an avid sports fan & loved watching football, baseball & basketball on tv. His
favorite teams were the Dallas Cowboys, Texas Rangers & North Carolina collegiate
basketball teams, especially Duke. He also, loved reading historical fiction that
pertained to military suspense & intrigue. He especially took great pride in his children,
grandchildren & great grandchildren with their many accomplishments.
Dusty is predeceased by his sisters; Mildred Ray & Betty LeBreque and brother George
Rhodes. He is survived by brother; Bill Rhodes of California, his children Julie Harris &
husband Louie, Mike Rhodes & wife Teri, Mia Gentry & husband Karl. He had 4
grandchildren Jackie Schroeter & husband Jay, Tim Harris & wife Tammi, Jamye Hall &
husband Gerrad, Garrett Rhodes & wife Jacy; along with 8 great grandchildren Jay,
Nolan, Bradley, Rylee, Brooklyn, Cameron, Kason & Reese.
He will be remembered in a private family memorial service.
