Sidney Sue Graham, 83, of Denton, passed away April 19, 2018 at Presbyterian Hospital of Denton. She was born July 3, 1934 in Bowie, Texas to Sidney Cyril and Margaret Ruth (Scales) Smith. She studied journalism at North Texas State University (UNT), where she would meet her future husband, Freddie Othal Graham. Both earned Bachelor of Journalism degrees in 1957. They were married in 1958 in Nocona. Both had their first professional journalism experience at the San Angelo Standard-Times. After a brief stint at the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, the couple returned to Denton. Fred was the Sports Information Director at NTSU, while Sidney Sue was the Lifestyle Editor at the Denton Record-Chronicle. She was also the Public Information Director at Flow Hospital. Sidney Sue is frequently remembered as the person who gave the athletic teams at UNT the nickname "Mean Green."
A memorial service will be held 3:00 P.M. Saturday, May 26, 2018 at First Christian Church, 1203 Fulton St. Denton, with Rev. Jack Mullins officiating. Rev. Dr. Charlotte Nabors will deliver the Homily.
Sidney Sue Graham is survived by sons Gregory Fred Graham and wife Colleen, Mark Sidney Graham, and Michael Kirk Graham, all of Denton, a sister, Peggy Funderburke, of Houston, a brother, Glenn Allen Smith and wife Euthelva, of Nocona, and a sister Deborah Frances Smith, of Bowie, and five grandchildren, Nathan Graham, Ian Graham, Phelan Graham, Ronan Graham, and Megan Graham, all of Denton.
