Shirley Rogers - A Servant Faithful & Good
Our Mother - January 26, 1938 - July 1, 2024
Our mother, Shirley Jean Rogers, passed from her earthly life of simplicity to the majestic realm of eternity in the early hours of Monday, July 1, 2024 at a local hospital in Denton. Through the mercy of the Lord, all her children were able to be at her bedside with her as she transitioned. In her last moments, we were able to say I love you to each other and she peacefully slipped into her heavenly rest. When the Lord greeted her with "Well done, good & faithful servant," (Matthew 25) we are sure the multitudes of heaven cheered in unison & agreement.
Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints.
I am Your servant. You have loosed my bonds.
I will offer to You the sacrifice of thanksgiving and call on the name of the Lord.
I will pay my vows to the Lord in the presence of all his people, in the courts of the house of the Lord,
in our midst, O Jerusalem,
Praise the Lord
(Psalm 116:15, 17-19)
Shirley Rogers was the spiritual leader of her family for most of her adult life - leading through prayer as each family member faced their challenges one by one - always a source of unconditional love, intercession and quiet service. Besides leading and serving her family, she was a pillar of faith and service within her church family at Central Baptist Church in Denton for the last twenty years as well as her prior twenty-plus years of unflinching service at Central Park Baptist Church in Carrollton. Together she spent more than fifty years serving in the nurseries and children's ministries of her two church homes. When she retired from her working life she filled her life with even more time of service. She faithfully served to clean the church facilities before and after services, special events, conferences, revivals and any other need that presented itself. She provided transportation to help others get to church, attend doctors appointments, and make airport connections. Into her eighties, she mowed and trimmed yards for neighbors, cooked meals for families in their times of need and was always quick to slip some money into sympathy cards, get well cards, new baby cards, birthday cards and so much more. She accomplished more on a shoestring budget than could be believed. Her widow's mite (Luke 21) was mighty in its frequency, its consistency and its impact.
