Obituary

Sherwood McKee, age 84, of Coppell, TX, passed away, Tuesday, June 24, 2008. He was born July 25, 1923 in Shepherdstown, WV to George R. and Maude S. Painter McKee. He entered the United States Army at age 19 and served during WWII, was at the Battle of the Bulge and was awarded four Bronze Service Stars.  Sherwood attended George Washington University in Washington, DC; Shepherd College in Shepherdstown, West Virginia; Union Theological Seminary in Richmond, Virginia; and did his graduate work at The Perkins School of Theology at Southern Methodist University in Dallas.  He married the love of his life, Patricia A. Glascock on June 19, 1955 in Rensselaer, MO.  They were happily married for 41 years.  She preceded him in death February 4, 1996.  Sherwood was a pioneer.  His first church ministry he chose to be a missionary to a poor African American community in Richmond, Virginia in the 1950's.  He was always very supportive of the Civil Rights Movement.  He continued his pioneering spirit when, after 17 years in the pulpit, he chose to go into a new field Pastoral Counseling.  During his training he served an internship as Chaplain at Parkland Hospital.   After he completed his training he received his license for Pastoral Counseling.  He also completed training and received his license as a Marriage and Family Therapist and started a counseling practice with two other Presbyterian ministers.  His wife Pat, completed her training and joined him in his counseling ministry, specialized in helping victims of domestic violence, until he retired in 1991. In all Sherwood served as a Presbyterian minister for 55 years.  Even in his twilight years he continued to serve others on a Peace Making Committee through his Presbytery and he delivered Meals on Wheels.  Sherwood was a loving husband, wonderful father and grandfather.  His loving spirit, caring nature and delightful smile contributed to all who knew him.  He devoted his life to serving God and helping others.

Survivors include a daughter, Martha McKee Barton and husband Michael Dean of Coppell, TX; sons, Mark Sherwood McKee of Coppell, TX and Peter Neale McKee and wife Diane Kay of Flower Mound, TX; brother, George R. McKee and wife Pat of South Carolina; and four grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Helen Simpson and Anne Kerns.   In lieu of flowers donations can be made to:  The Family Place, P.O.
