Sheldon Earl Smith passed away July 18, 2015 at his home. An 11:00 a.m. service remembering his life will be held at Denton Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday, July 21. Sheldon was born on March 14, 1940 in Benson, Minnesota to Lester and Evelyn Smith. He graduated from Benson High School. He married his high school sweetheart, Deanna Jean Smith, on February 21, 1959. Sheldon joined the US army on April 14, 1961 and served until April 13, 1967. He spent the majority of his working life in El Paso, TX. He proudly served the US Government as a Civil Servant for 30 years. He retired in 1988. He and Deanna returned to Minnesota for a period of five years, living in the Lake Carlos area. He relocated one last time to Denton, Texas in 1992. Deanna preceded Sheldon to heaven in 2009. Survivors: Jeffrey Lester Smith and his wife Patsy of Gonzales, LA, Steven Earl Smith and his wife Joy of Chaparral, NM, Donald David Smith and his wife Sherri of Aubrey, TX; three granddaughters, Cherette, Amanda, and Brenda; five great-grandchildren, Haylea, Jeffrey, Lyra, Ryland and Brecklynn.
