Shannon Dawn Butler, born on April 06, 1959, in Houston, Texas was sent to her eternal home on December 30, 2025, in Denton, Texas. She was the beloved daughter of Virgil and Anita Butler.
Shannon was a shining light in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her journey on this earth was one marked by love, laughter, and music. Her passing has left a void in the hearts of her family, friends, and many more whose lives were touched by Shannon. We ask that you remember her not for the way her life ended, but for the way it was lived, and for the profound impact it had on the many lives of those who had the privilege of knowing her and being taught by her.
Shannon is survived by her loving parent, Virgil Butler, and sisters Brenda Butler Walsworth and Stacy Ann Butler. Shannon was the cherished mother of two wonderful children, Patrick Thompson and Jessica Thompson. She also leaves behind aunts and uncles who adored her dearly. Among them are Billy and Martha Butler and Glenn Legate, and a host of cousins.
She is a graduate from the University of North Texas and after graduation, Shannon embarked on a mission to spread the message that music is the language of the spirit. For 20 years, Shannon taught countless students across Texas before her retirement.
Those who knew Shannon will remember her for her infectious smile and overwhelming laughter, her deep-rooted faith in Jesus. She had a rare gift for making others smile and laugh, leaving a lasting impact on all who crossed her path.
The Celebration of Life service to honor the life of Shannon Dawn Butler will be held on January 3rd, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Mulkey-Bowes-Montgomery Funeral Home — 705 N. Locust, Denton, Texas 76201.
Although Shannon’s physical presence may no longer grace our lives, her spirit will continue to inspire and uplift us. May her memory be a blessing, and may we carry forth her legacy of love and continue to inspire those around us as she always did. Dear Shannon, may your light shine forever and continue singing in the choirs of heaven.
