Sarah Packer Thames passed away peacefully at home on her 85th birthday, Friday, September 29, 2023. She was born in Natchez, MS, the only child of Emmett Garner Packer and Elsie Mae Hendry.

In 1957 she married Henry Edward Thames in Wesson, MS. Together they raised 3 children and lived in 8 cities in 6 states, before settling in Denton in 1983.

Sarah made every family move into an adventure. When their youngest was in high school, she went back to work, eventually retiring from both the University of North Texas and FEMA. While she enjoyed her work and made friends everywhere she went with her caring and generous nature, her family was her passion. The joys of her life were her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Sarah leaves behind: daughter Jackie Thames and husband Roger Cox; sons Henry Thames and wife Lori, and Lance Thames and wife Lynn; grandchildren Shannon and husband Kristopher Selby and their sons Henry and Jack; Nathaniel and wife Emily Thames and their daughter Margot; Ryan and wife Cara Thames and their sons Everett and Elliott; Angelina Thames; Rachel and husband Rodney Meeks and their son Chase; James Thames and partner Becky Evans; and Madison Thames; brothers- and sisters-in-law Billy and Martha Thames; Pat and Paul Douglas; and Ellen Douglas Thames McMorrough. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; sister-in-law Anne Allen Thames; and brother-in-law Bob Thames.

Pallbearers are Nathaniel Thames, Ryan Thames, James Thames, Kristopher Selby, Rodney Meeks, and Derrick Gray.
