Sammy E. Ellis, age 87, of Lewisville, passed away Monday, April 14, 2008, at his home surrounded by his loving family.

He was born July 16, 1920 in Floyd, Texas to Samuel Ernest (Dudd) Ellis, Sr. and Hallie Blakemore Ellis. Sammy married Mary Alice Bennett on April 7, 1940 in Dallas. They joined the First United Methodist Church of Lewisville in 1953. He worked as an engineer for the U.S. Corps of Engineers for many years.

Sammy is survived by his wife of 68 years, Mary; children, Ernest W. Ellis, Kay Cason, Larry M. Ellis and Kent Ellis; 21 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild and by a brother, Wallace Ellis. He was preceded in death by a son, Steve Ellis on January 29, 2004.

Funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 16, 2008, at First United Methodist Church of Lewisville. Interment will follow at Old Hall Cemetery in Lewisville. Reverend Paul Sackett and Reverend Russell Floyd will officiate the service. The family requests memorial contributions to be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
