Saad Abbas AlKhafaji, 66, of Denton, Texas passed away on February 26, 2021 in Denton, Texas. In his last days fighting brain cancer, Saad was surrounded by his family.
Saad was born in 1954 in Baghdad, Iraq to parents Abbas and Fozia. The oldest of six siblings (four sisters & one brother), Saad adored his family. As a young man, Saad served in the military and was an accomplished soccer player for the Iraqi Premier League. He graduated from The University of Baghdad with a degree in Sports Education in 1977. He moved to the USA in his twenties. He met his wife of 40 years in Denton where they would build their life together. Saad spent over two decades working in the direct mail business, eventually becoming President of Unlimited International Mailing. After retiring from UIM, he spent years working at Fort Sill (OK) as a Foreign Language Specialist and Trainer, where he received several certifications and honors for his contributions. Helping to train US soldiers was one of Saad's proudest accomplishments. Saad was most passionate about people, sports and food. He loved to share these passions with those around him. He spent many years coaching youth sports in Denton. He was known for hand-delivering his favorite foods to neighbors and friends. Saad's greatest source of joy in life was his family. He and Valerie married in 1981 and together they raised three children. "Popeye" had one grandchild. In death, as in life, Saad is remembered as a strong, proud and kind man. He was a man with colorful stories and a benevolent heart. Saad is survived by his wife Valerie, children Nicole (Samuel), Alexander (Erin) and David, and grandchild William.
