Obituary

Ruth Jackson Ramey Sweeney, 87 of Denton, died Friday, June 16, 2006 at Denton Regional Medical Center. She was born July 28, 1918 to John Andrew and Grace (Bradley) Ramey on the family farn near Higginsville, MO, just east of Kansas City. She was the youngest of four sisters, who, with her parents, predeceased her. She was married to Albert Sweeney, Jr. on Sept. 23, 1951 in Higginsville, he died in 1984.Ms. Sweeney attended William Woods College and graduated from the University of Missouri (B.S.) and Texas Woman's University (M.Ed.) She taught physical education in Gideon, MO, before working for the YWCA in Tulsa, OK. After World War II she was a civilian employee with the U. S. Army in Germany. After her marriage, she worked for the Oklahoma City YWCA as a summer camp director and swimming instructor. For many summers, she taught riding at Kamp Paddle Trails in Noreastern Oklahoma.
She was a regular at the Denton Senior Center and a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church in Denton for over 40 years.
Survivors include two daughters, Suzanne Sweeney and Sarah E. Sweeney, of Denton; and her nephew, John Ramey Zeikle of Higginsville, and niece, Jean Walker of Booneville, MO.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, September 23, 2006 at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 2200 N. Bell Ave. Denton, with the Rev. Dr. Corinna Nation, officiating. Instead of flowers, memorials may be made to Trinity Presbyterian Church, 2200 N. Bell Ave. Denton, TX 76209, or a favorite charity.
