Dr. Russell Ware
Russell Ware died February 17, 2008 in Denton, TX. "Doc" was a teacher, mentor, and friend to many. A resident of Denton for over 40 years, he was known for his good humor, gracious manner, and loving service to those he encountered in daily life. His frequent response to one who helped him in any way was, "Thank you for your excellent service."
Russell was born August 11, 1920 in Kingsville, TX to parents Genevieve Kendall and Russell F. Ware, Sr.
He married Loraine Bates in Waco in 1941 during the same service in which he was ordained to the ministry. He was a 1942 graduate of Baylor University and earned a Doctor of Theology degree in 1958 from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He pastored Baptist churches in Texas and New Mexico and served as a denominational worker in Texas and California. He taught Bible courses for college and seminary credit and ministered to students at four state universities in Texas, including over 20 years at UNT. In his "spare time" and after retiring from paid positions, he focused on studying the Bible as written in its original languages, writing, and volunteering his services to churches and other communities. Some of Dr. Ware's writings and more biographical details can be found at
