Obituary

Rose Burton Tyler passed away August 10th 2006 at Presbyterian Hospital in Denton, Texas.
She was born on the shores of Lake Superior in Ontonagon Michigan, March 14th 1916. A native "Yooper" from Michigan's Upper Peninsula, she grew up in Pontiac Michigan, the only girl among five Burton children. She married United States Army Lieutenant Desmond Tyler On October 10th 1942 and lived during the war in La Jolla, California and Fort Warren Wyoming, where she had two children, Burton & Linda. After the war, although she resided in Illinois and Texas, she never forgot her U.P. roots and spent the past 54 summers back in God's country at a place affectionately known as "The Cabin."
Tailgating at University of Michigan football games, keeping an immaculate house, cooking, singing, and playing poker were some of Mrs. Tyler's favorite pastimes, and she was excellent at each. She and her husband Des were also members of the University of North Texas Trustees and attended all home sporting events. Mrs. Tyler was also a lifetime member of the American Legion Auxiliary.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years Desmond Ralph Tyler, and five brothers, Russell, Leslie, Howard, Harry and Charles Burton. She is survived by her son Burton Desmond Tyler and wife Cathy of Fenton, Michigan, and her daughter Linda Tyler Rollins and husband Jim of Denton, Texas. Mrs. Tyler has five grand children, Brian Tyler and wife Paulette of Ann Arbor, Michigan, Erika Tyler of Whitmore Lake, Michigan, Ramona Rollins Graham and husband Brian of Napa, California, Burton Tyler Rollins of Denton, Texas, and James Travis Rollins of Bryan, Texas. She also has seven great grandchildren, Jeremy, Drew, Jamie, Isabella, Gwen, Kyla, and Garrett.
A private burial service will be held Tuesday September 5th, 2006 at 2 p.m. at the Riverside Cemetery in Ontonagon, Michigan. In lieu of flowers please make donations to First United Methodist Church 201 S. Locust St., Denton Texas 76201 or the Salvation Army.
