He spent his growing up years in Virginia Beach and graduated from Cox High School and Old Dominion University as a civil engineer.  He worked in Houston and Dallas, where he met his future wife, Suzanne Clifford Bell.

Ron was an optimist, his enthusiasm was contagious, a joy to be with. He enhanced the lives of all who knew him. An avid outdoorsman, he loved hiking and camping, played football and ran in marathons,

Left to  cherish his memory are his loving and courageous wife,  Suzanne, two beautiful daughters, Jennifer, 19, and Amanda, 13; his parents, Joe and Nancy Hayes; two brothers, Jeff and Joey, a sister, Julie, and their loving families.

A memorial service was held at First United Methodist Church in Coppell, Texas.  Memorial donations may be made to Myasthenia Gravis Foundation of America, 1821 University Ave, W., S256,    St. Paul, MN 55104
