Obituary

Robert "Bob" Leon Campbell, II, 77, died Monday, April 30, 2018 at his home in Argyle, TX. He was married to Cheryl Ann Edwards on September 22, 1974 in Denton and was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church.
Bob was born on September 10, 1940 in Dallas to Robert Leon and Rachel Elva (White) Campbell. His father was a civilian aircraft mechanic for the Army Air Corps; his mother a homemaker and later nurse. When he was 12, his parents moved the family to Arlington where he graduated high school and moved on to college. He left the University of Texas in pursuit of a new interest after hearing a radio ad by the Texas Highway Patrol. He was recruited in February 1963, accepting his first station of duty in Tyler as a State Trooper. In 1966, he transferred to the Department of Public Safety MVI Division in Denton. While raising his family, he was promoted to Sergeant in 1977 and stationed in Houston. While there he also became a Licensed Chemical Abuse Counselor, working simultaneously in a prosperous counseling, consultation and educational business for many more years with his wife, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker; his kids growing up and moving onto their own lives as adults.
After 28 years of service dedicated to the State of Texas, Bob retired as Captain in 1991. Shortly thereafter, he and his wife moved to Little Rock, Arkansas to be near their daughter and grandchildren. Planning to enjoy a year-long sabbatical with his wife, Bob went down to the court house, introduced himself and instead returned home as a Probation Officer with the Arkansas Department of Probation and Parole. He dedicated 12 additional years to law enforcement serving the State of Arkansas until he decided to retire in 2003. He went on to volunteer as a security guard at Lutheran High School in Little Rock where he enjoyed being closer to his youngest son Kolby, and his exchange student and "German son" Lars, and being an additional supportive adult in the lives of other young people. In 2005, he retired for a third and final time to return to Texas and be closer to his beloved mother during her later years of life.
Bob lived his life dedicated to God, learning the teachings of Christ, and enthusiastically sharing it with anyone who cared to listen. He loved children; raised 3 generations of kids and mentored many others. He loved history, nature, art, motor vehicles, hunting, fishing and camping. He restored and showed old cars, was a horseman and an artist of many forms. As his own life began to decline he withdrew from drawing and painting and focused more on his poetry and writing. Bob never stopped being available to his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, his family, friends and church. He believed his life was a work in progress, ever evolving as God led him, once saying, "I am the most grateful recipient of a Jesus extreme makeover," and sharing his personal testimony. He touched many lives and leaves behind the memory of an honorable man.
He is survived by his wife, Cheryl Ann Campbell of Argyle; daughter, Marci Ann Mansfield of Cypress; sons, Robert William Campbell of Mineola and Robert Kolby Campbell of Justin; brother, Michael Campbell of San Angelo; sister, Debra York of Arlington; grandchildren, Kaley Campbell, Bethany Blake, Frank Pusateri, Royce Mansfield, and Megan Campbell; great-grandchildren, Hatlee Campbell, Kaiden Hooper, Grace Campbell, MyKailah Lawrence, Avery Blake, Ryleigh Pusateri, Ezra Blake, Layne Campbell, and Carter Hart; Godchildren, Brandi Ward and Robyn Nelson; and a wealth of family and friends. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Tamara Beth Campbell Taylor and Godchild James Michael Campbell.
