Robert Shepard Kay, beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend passed away peacefully at home on May 27, 2009, with his family by his side after a valiant fight with cancer at the age of 67 years. Bob was born March 27, 1942 in New York City, NY and grew up in Palmyra, New York. After completing High School, he joined the United States Air Force, serving six years and he then enlisted in the U.S. Army to become an Army Aviator. After completing pilot training, he was assigned to fly "O1"Birddog airplanes in the Republic of South Vietnam. During that tour of duty Bob was wounded during military action receiving the Purple Heart. Bob also served a second tour of combat duty in the Republic of South Vietnam. His decorations include the Bronze Star, Army Commendation Medal, Four Bronze Service Stars, Humanitarian Service Medal, Air Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Four Vietnam Service Medals, and the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry. After military retirement, Bob continued his flying career with American Airlines where he became a Captain on the Fokker 100, McDonald Douglas Super 80 and the Boeing 727 aircraft. He retired from American Airlines on March 31, 2002 but was not ready to just go "fishing". Just weeks later, Bob joined the Federal Aviation Agency as an Aviation Safety Inspector, utilizing his many years of experience and expertise.

Bob is survived by his wife, Betty Kay of Denton; sons, Tom Kay of Denton, Tim Kay of The Colony; daughter, Tracy Kay of Castle Rock, CO; daughters-in-law, Patty Kay and Carmen Kay; grandchildren, Crystal Kay, Corey and Clinton Craig, and Robbie Campbell. He is also survived by his sister, Peggy Cogvan of Glen Falls, NY and brother-in-law, Jim Roe and his wife Linda of Geneva, NY.

Visitation will be held from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM Sunday May 31, 2009 at Mulkey-Mason, Jack Schmitz and Son Funeral Home. A Memorial Mass will be at 8:30 AM Monday June 1, 2009 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Interment will follow at 11:30 AM Monday June 1, 2009 at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, Dallas, TX.
