Robert Leslie Griffin

October 8, 1958 - October 16. 2020 (age 62)

Robert Leslie Griffin of Galena Park, Texas and recently Denton, Texas was born in Pasadena, Texas on October 8, 1958, and passed from this life to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on October 16, 2020.  He was the fifth child born to Owen Clarence Griffin and Myrtle Ruth Blasingame Griffin. Robert trusted Jesus Christ for his eternal salvation at 11 years of age during a revival at Memorial Baptist Church in Channelview, Texas.

Robert graduated from Galena Park Senior High School. He later attended Texas State Technical Institute in Waco where he studied the art of upholstery. He was employed briefly by Hardy Gunite of Texas, and for 31 years by the Galena Park Independent School District. Robert had been an active member of Memorial Baptist Church in Channelview, Houston's First Baptist Church, First Baptist Church of Galena Park, and Denton Bible Church. He was an original member of Bowling and Bible, a men's fellowship group from Denton Bible Church.

Robert's greatest love was the Lord Jesus and the Word of God, his family, his friends and coworkers, and most of all fishing. In spite of the various challenges life brought his way, Robert had a kind and sweet disposition as well as a compassionate heart toward people, especially for those who suffered. His spiritual gift was helping others. Those of us who grew up with him, or knew him as a friend, never saw any pretense or arrogance in him. He was always loyal to those in his circle.

Robert had a great desire for all people to come to know Jesus as Savior and Lord. He loved giving Gideon New Testaments to those he met in a restaurant, a drive-thru, the bowling alley, a gas station, and his favorite hangouts, Academy and Buc-ees.  Robert was a hugger. Because he was so strong, he could give a bear hug that eliminated the need for a chiropractor.

Robert was predeceased by his mother, Myrtle Ruth Blasingame Griffin, and by his brother, Jerry Lynn Griffin. He is survived by his father, Owen Clarence (Sonny) Griffin, Sr. of Denton, brother Owen Clarence Griffin, Jr. and wife Elizabeth (Libby) Woleben Griffin of Denton, sister Ruth Anne Griffin Garner of Houston, brother John Hugh Griffin and wife Sharon (Shari) Beth Griffin of Beaumont, and brother James Doyle Griffin and wife Kendra Kay Griffin of Amarillo. He is also survived by nephews and nieces, William Gatlin Garner, John Justin Griffin and wife Peniel Roxas Griffin, Hollyn Elizabeth Griffin Franklin and husband Conor Bryce Franklin, Caitlin Tyer Griffin, Owen Carpenter Griffin and wife Nicole Carolyn Griffin, Amanda Elizabeth Griffin, and Benjamin James Griffin. Robert is also survived by great nieces and great nephews Piper Sophia Griffin, Graham Henry Griffin, Ezra Bryce Franklin, Emmalyn Eliza Franklin, Taylor Ruth Griffin, and a great nephew due in March 2021.

Robert touched many lives and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him for the gentle and godly man he was.
