Our Lord called upon a warrior, so Robert Erwin, of Sanger, TX peacefully answered his calling on the morning of September 18, 2015.
Bob is survived by his children, Kathy Erwin and Donny Erwin; his three grandchildren, Brandi and Mark Murphree; Kristyn Jeter and Brian Beck; and Tyler Wells; and his six great-grandchildren, Brileigh Murphree, Kynlee Buckingham, Taytum Murphree, Gavin Beck, Calista Beck, and Ryanne Murphree; and his siblings Alice Faye Larson, Bonnie Stearnes, Nancy Brown, Mary Ann Lundvall, Floyd Erwin, and countless extended family and friends. He is preceded in death by his wife Florence Erwin, his granddaughter Jaime Jeter, his parents Charles and Gaynell Erwin, and his siblings Bill Erwin, Kenny Erwin and Keith Erwin.
Bob Erwin was born on June 14, 1931 in Wellsville, Ohio. He joined the United States Air Force in 1952 and became a skilled aircraft mechanic. He is a veteran of the Korean War where he earned several medals. Once honorably discharged Bob and Florence settled in Lewisville, TX. He then opened a successful business, Addison Sheet Metal, and after several years, worked exclusively with the distinguished Drug Enforcement Agency and traveled with them until his retirement in 1996.
Bob loved America's true past time, football; and he was an avid supporter of the local high school football team, the Fighting Farmers, where he never missed a game in 28 years. Bob enjoyed cheering and boisterously accusing referees for erroneous calls at the Fighting Farmer games since his children and grandchildren all graduated from Lewisville High School.
Bob and Florence loved their friends and family dearly and all knew they were welcome at 1333 Marblehead Drive. They always had a place for someone to lay their head and food to fill their bellies. Bob and Florence took their grandchildren on many road trips across the country, and although Bob's lead foot would throw most passengers in the floor boards, everyone would arrive safely. Bob was blessed with a green thumb and became an avid gardener, supplying his friends and family with an abundance of vegetables to eat. Bob loved to decorate his house with as many Christmas lights as possible, which is probably where the writers for "National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation" got their inspiration.
Bob passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family. He will be remembered as a loving family man, a boisterous football fan, a crazy driver, and a passionate gardener.
