Rita (Hughes) Kothman died in her home on Tuesday, February 18, 2020 in Corinth, TX after a 7 year battle with cancer. She was 70.
Rita was born on October 3, 1949, in Huntington, IN. She grew up in Roanoke, Indiana then moved to Fort Wayne until she came home to Texas in 1990. During her life, she attended Indiana University and went on to work and retire from GTE/Verizon.
Rita loved her family and had especially fond memories of her family's second home in Clear Lake, IN and her dream house and pool in Austin, TX. She loved animals, particularly the cats she adopted throughout her lifetime. She was a huge history buff and trivia whiz. She also really loved reading, sunshine, the beach, and the music of Jimmy Buffett.
Rita is survived by her best friend and husband of 40 years, Thomas Kothman, and her two daughters Kika (Shawn Wallace) Neville and Kyla (Jonathan) Hunt. She is also survived by her grandchildren Django Wallace, Amelia Hunt, and Violet Hunt, her brother Robert Hughes, her sister Renita Hughes, her nephews Kris, Kasie, and Korree, and her niece Katie. She is preceded in death by her parents Pearl C. and Bob "E" Hughes, and her close friend and sister-in-law Mary Lou (Kothman) Berning.
A memorial will take place on Saturday, February 29, 2020 at 2 p.m. at Mulkey-Bowles-Montgomery Funeral Home in Denton, TX, followed by a service on Saturday, March 7, 2020 at 2 p.m. at Seminary United Methodist Church in Roanoke, IN. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Rita's life. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the American Cancer Society or Austin Siamese Rescue.
