Richard Robert Buckley, known affectionately as Rich, Richie, or “Blair,” departed this life on July 1, 2026. Born on December 16, 1970, his journey was defined by resilience, creativity, and a compassion that left a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Despite facing early challenges and later health issues, Richard’s spirit remained unwavering. His kindness and generosity shone brightly, offering quiet strength and humor to everyone he encountered. As a cherished friend and treasured member of his chosen family, his sincerity and grace formed the foundation of the deep relationships he nurtured.

A gifted writer and musician, Richard possessed an intuitive musical ability he described as “playing in tongues.” He found joy in life’s simple pleasures: reading, browsing thrift stores, spending time with his beloved dog Buddy, journaling, singing, theater, and cooking. He valued simplicity and small, meaningful spaces, reflecting his deep understanding of what matters most. His spiritual journey was enriched by the teachings of Science of Mind and the writings of Colette Baron-Reid and Sue Grafton.

Richard’s profound love for his dogs—Sofie, Emma, and Buddy—spoke to his tender heart and unwavering devotion. A comforting listener, he offered ease and acceptance in his relationships, embodying true compassion.

Richard was preceded in death by his biological parents, the Kemps; his adoptive parents, Bob and Ruth Buckley; and his partner, John Reba. He is survived by his biological siblings, Bob, Kevin, Karrie, and Ron, as well as his adopted sisters, Beth, Jackie, Robin, and Holly. He is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews.

In addition, Richard leaves behind a wide circle of chosen family—Arveldia, David, Donnie, Gilian, Jodi, and Russell, to name a few—whom he lovingly gathered throughout his life. All who knew and loved him feel this loss deeply.

Richard’s life was an embodiment of authenticity, friendship, and love—a testament to the art of living fully present. Though his physical presence is no longer with us, his spirit endures in the hearts of those he touched.

A Celebration of Life Memorial will be held on August 1, 2026, at 2:00 PM at The Rackhouse in The Colony, Texas. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Baylor College of Medicine, Out of the Closet in Dallas, or a local animal rescue organization or food pantry of your choice.
