Obituary

Reta Alice Smothermon Hardesty, 96, of Denton, TX, passed away on February 5, 2014. She was born December 12, 1917, in Aubrey, TX, to William Everett Smothermon and Mary Naomi (Blake) Smothermon. She attended Spring Hill and A Reta Alice Smothermon Hardesty, 96, of Denton, TX, passed away on February ubrey schools as well as the University of North Texas and Texas Woman's University. She married George Hardesty on June 29, 1940, in Denton; they enjoyed 53 years together until his death in 1993. Reta was a stay-at-home mom and is survived by her daughter Susan of Springfield, IL, and sons Mark (Kathy Barrett) of Durango, CO, and George (Shanna) of Denton, TX. She is also survived by grandchildren Guthrie and Mullaney Hardesty of Durango, CO, and Megan Hardesty of Denton, TX. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brothers J.W. (Skeet), Ralph, and Fred Smothermon, and sisters Willie Mae Griffiths, Christine Sills, Anna Rue Smothermon, and her twin sister Leta Smothermon.
In 1962, Reta and George moved to Jacksonville, IL, where they resided until their retirement in 1978. They returned to Texas leaving behind many great friends and neighbors in Lincolnland. Reta was very active in church, civic, and volunteer activities throughout her life. She was an avid bridge player and crossword puzzle solver and will be remembered for her sweet caring soul and good nature. She was a devout Christian, wonderful mother, and loyal friend. She would want to sincerely thank her caregivers at Good Samaritan and Ann's Haven Hospice.
