Rebecca Roberson of Duncanville, TX, "Becky" to her friends and family, died peacefully in her sleep surrounded by her family on the evening of December 3rd after a brief fight with ovarian cancer. Born in Denton, TX on 5/19/47, she was the second of four daughters of Brooke and Jean Shirley, both of whom predeceased her (she is survived by sisters Leslie Kemp, Julia Smith, and Shannon Shirley). Raised in Dallas and having graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School, she attended North Texas State University, where she met her future husband, Dr. J. Michael "Mike" Roberson, whom she married in January of 1967.
The first of their four children, Chris, was born while the couple were still living in Memphis, TN while Mike was finishing his dental degree, followed by the birth of three more children after the couple relocated to Duncanville--Brooke and Mary, fraternal twins, and Jenny. Becky's husband and her children were the light of her life, as she was the light of theirs, and she was active during their adolescences in PTAs, Scouting, and in particular in the Dallas Twins Club, where she met other mothers of multiples who would be her dearest friends for the remainder of her days. Once their children were grown, Becky joined Dr. Roberson as the office manager of his dental practice, and hers was the smiling face who greeted all of their patients for nearly two decades. In recent years, Becky has been perhaps better known as "Mimi" by her growing number of grandchildren, including John and Henry Bumgarner, Georgia Roberson, Maggie and Grace Johnson, and Michael Roberson, all of whom were a source of constant joy for her. Becky was gregarious, witty, a voracious reader and a lover of cheap red wines and chocolates, a pillar of strength, and a source of joy and comfort to all who knew her. She is irreplaceable, and will be dearly missed.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the American Cancer Society. A private service was held in her memory on Tuesday.
