Obituary

Pierce, Phyllis Jean was born on May 23, 1934 in Yetter, Iowa to Harvey and Emma Garnatz. Phyllis Pierce died September 5, 2025 in Denton, Texas. Phyllis is survived by: brothers Ray Dean Garnatz and Larry Lee Garnatz and their spouses and children; her children Susan Pierce, Bill and Terry Pierce, Patricia and Scott Card, and Michael and Christie Pierce; grandchildren Audrey and Lawrence Brown, Rebecca Leal and Emily Wheeless, Hannah Carey, Ben Flynn, and James W Pierce; and many nephews, nieces, and great grandchildren.

Phyllis grew up in Yetter, Iowa and attended school in Yetter and Lake City. After graduating Salutatorian from High School in 1952, she attended Methodist Hospital School of Nursing in Sioux City, graduating in 1954. She worked as a Registered Nurse in Ames, Iowa, and later in life for the City of Garland, Texas.

Phyllis married James I Pierce in October 1955. James served as an Aviator in the U.S. Navy and was stationed in Rhode Island and Florida. They were married for 54 years until Jim's passing in 2009.  After his discharge from the Navy, Jim joined Collins Radio in Richardson, Texas.  There they grew their family and made a happy household. Phyllis was a wonderful mother to four children, making sure they were respectful, educated, and had straight teeth.  Phyllis attended First Presbyterian Church in Richardson for most of her adult life.

Phyllis is also preceded in death by her parents Harvey Raymond and Emma Van Scoy Garnatz, by her sister Beverly McCaulley, and by her nephew Ronald McCaulley.  Her ashes will be buried with those of her husband at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery in Texas.

A Memorial service for Phyllis Pierce will be held on Saturday, October 4, 10:30 AM at Asbury United Methodist Church, 117 W. Hercules Ln, Denton, Texas 76207.
