Obituary

Philip Eugene Baker, 78, of Denton passed away on Saturday, March 20, 2010 at Denton Regional Medical Center. He was born February 5, 1932 in Bay City, Texas. He will be remembered as a loving and dedicated husband, father, grandfather and Great Grandfather, and friend. Philip was a retired United Methodist Minister having served in both the New Mexico and North Texas Conference since 1955. He served as Chaplain of the Denton County Sheriff's Department from 1997 until 2005.

The memorial service will be 2:00 pm Friday 26, 2010 at the Pavilion at Roselawn Memorial Park Denton, Texas, with Dr. Larry George, Virgil Aldag and Bliss Spillar IV officiating the service.

Philip attended the University of Texas in Austin and graduated with a Masters of Theology from Southern Methodist University. He was a fifty year member of Frontier Masonic Lodge # 766 in Alpine, Texas and a Past Patron of The Order of the Eastern Star. He received the Silver Beaver Award from the Boy Scouts of America and was an active in the Dallas Walk to Emmaus for many years having participated in the 1St Walk to Emmaus in South Africa.

Survived by his wife Sammye Ann Baker, children Philip M. Baker of Denton, Sammye Lynn Spillar and husband Bliss Spiller III, of Lynchburrg, Virginia, and Mary Jo Tallant-Ball of Denton, Grandchildren, Philip James (P.J.) Baker, Rebecca (Becky) Baker, Bliss IV, Sammye Ann and Sarah Elizabeth Spillar, Robert Lee Tallant. Great Granddaufgter Aubrey Baker.
