Obituary

Patsy Goyne Wasler, 72, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family on February 20, 2019.

Patsy was born on August 17, 1946 in Bonham, TX to Opal Juanita (Woodall) and T.B. Goyne. She was preceded in death by beloved grandson Gentry Alexander Nelson and her steadfast and loving life-partner, Gerald W. Wilson. Patsy is survived by daughter Angela Nelson and son-in-law Don Nelson of Denton, daughter Amanda (Wasler) Black and daughter-in-law Samantha Black of Austin; sister Paula (Goyne) Skalenda and brother-in-law Bill Skalenda of Plano, and grandsons Blake and Alexander Nelson of Denton.

Patsy lived in multiple locations throughout her life, primarily in Texas, with the bulk of her adulthood being in Irving, Denton, and Lubbock. She began her first career as a hairdresser in her twenties and then after becoming a mother she began her second career as a payroll expert and eventual supervisor. Patsy had an unrivaled work ethic and passion for paying people accurately for a job well-done, which laid the foundation for her to become known as an expert in the field of payroll. She lent her expertise to Zales Jewelers for three decades and then retired in 2014 from almost a decade at Sally Beauty. Upon retirement, she was finally able to begin the final chapter of her life- to live a dream she carried with her throughout life- to move from Denton back to Lubbock to live-out her golden years with the love of her life, Gerald. Patsy and Gerald had five years together until he passed in 2018. At that time, she returned to Denton to be with her family.

She was able to spend her last days with her children and their families, her sister and brother-in-law, and a dear friend. She had a lot of laughs and so much love was shared. She had a peaceful journey home and was lovingly surrounded by family in her final moments. She spoke of the love and appreciation she had for all of her family and friends. She was able to leave this earth with a sense of deep appreciation for having the opportunity to know she was going to pass soon and getting to cherish those last few moments together with loved ones.

Our family would like to thank the staff of Denton Rehab and Nursing for the care given to Patsy during her time there. We have a special thanks to Tyler Gullette, Hospice Champlain, for the care he took of our mother in her final days. Tyler met Patsy two days before she died, and was able to bring her joy through song and prayer, and was there with us and her to lovingly help escort her home on her last day.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to the American Diabetes Association or the National Kidney Foundation.

Patsy's Memorial service will be held on Monday, March 25, 2019 at 11:00 AM at Mulkey-Bowles-Montgomery Funeral Home in Denton.

We again appreciate all of the condolences and sharing your thoughts about our mother.
