Patrick William Shovlin, Jr., age 71, of Lewisville, passed away suddenly Thursday, August 20, 2009, in Lewisville.

He was born August 13, 1938 in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania to Patrick William Shovlin, Sr. and Mary Rhetkovich Shovlin.  He graduated from Coughlin High School in 1956 and Wilkes University in 1961.  At Wilkes, Pat was a letterman on the swim team.  Pat served in the United States Army and was honorably discharged. He married the love of his life, Mary Lou Kachur on May 12, 1961 in Mountaintop, Pennsylvania. He was a member of the Catholic church.

Pat worked the majority of his life as a materials manager for high tech manufacturing corporations.  At the time of his passing he was joyously employed as a teacher's aide for the Lewisville ISD at Lewisville High School North. Pat Shovlin founded the Lewisville ISD Special Olympics Swim Team in 1988 and served as its coach until his passing.  Other than his family it was the proudest accomplishment of his life.

Pat is survived by his wife, Mary Lou; sons, Patrick W. Shovlin, III, M.D. and wife, Monica of Highland Village, Michael W. Shovlin and wife, Kim of Aubrey, Nicholas W. Shovlin and wife, Jennifer of Dallas and Matthew J. Shovlin and wife, Linda of Argyle; nine grandchildren, Tabitha, Patrick W. Shovlin, IV, Anna, Deva, Brian, Nick, Ram, Jake and Luke; sister, Kay Patenaude of The Colony; niece, Patti Freeman and nephew Bobby Patenaude.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Sunday, August 23, 2009, at Mulkey-Mason Funeral Home in Lewisville. A memorial service will be held 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 25, 2009, at First Baptist Church in Lewisville. The family requests memorial contributions made to the Lewisville ISD Special Olympics, 2080 Stillwater Place, Lewisville, Texas 75067.
