IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Patricia Joann
Hoit
February 10, 1933 – December 29, 2019
Patricia Joann Felzien Hoit
Patricia "Pat" Hoit was born on February 10, 1933 in St. Francis, Kansas to Elmer and Sylvia Felzien. She is the oldest of three children. Her sister, Alice Woodbury precedes her in death and her brother, LeRoy Felzien lives in Lee's Summit, MO. She also has a brother-in-law, Ross Woodbury from St. Joseph, MO and a sister-in-law, Jan Felzien who lives in Raytown, MO.
Pat was raised in western Kansas and graduated from St. Francis High School. Then she attended the University of Kansas where she graduated with a degree as a Registered Nurse. It was during this time that her friend Martha introduced her to her cousin, Stanley Hoit whom she married on January 29, 1955. He was from Missouri, so they moved to Liberty, MO to start their life together.
On May 8, 1959, their son, Scott was born and then on November 23, 1962, their daughter, Gayle was born. Pat had been working as a nurse, but when both children had allergies, she started working for their allergist, Dr. William Cox, in Independence, MO. As they got older, she took time off to raise the children and when they were older and the family moved to Jefferson City, MO. she began working for a doctor's office again, giving allergy injections.
Stanley and Pat retired and moved to Holiday Island, Arkansas in the 1980's. They really enjoyed living there and Pat continued to be active in Grace Lutheran Church, painting and quilting. They also enjoyed traveling and square dancing with the Holiday Island HI Steppers.
After seeing some of their friends get older and more ill, they decided that before they got too old, they would move to Denton, Texas so that their daughter could take care of them "when they got old". While in Texas, Pat was involved with St. Paul Lutheran church and their quilt guild, the American Legion Auxiliary and taking painting classes. As their health started to fail, they moved to an apartment at Good Samaritan Village until Stanley's death in 2016. At that point, Pat moved to Autumn Leaves Memory Care where she lived until she moved to Senior Care Nursing Home in July of 2018. She passed away quietly there on December 29, 2019.
She is survived by her brother, LeRoy Felzien and her two children, Scott Hoit and Gayle Hoit, both of Denton, TX. as well as numerous family, caregivers and friends that love her for her outgoing personality and infectious laugh.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday January 18 th at 11 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 703 N. Elm St. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the memorial fund at St. Paul Lutheran Church or the charity of your choice.
