Obituary

Vlastie Anne (Pat) Marek was born in Elk, TX on September 10, 1919, to Vince and Mary Marek. She attended high school in Axtell and excelled in drama and basketball. Her favorite activities included horseback riding and dancing, and she attended most of the local dances for miles around. J. T. Marek (no relation) of Perry, TX was at one of those dances in Elk and spied Pat. She declined his offer to dance because she was there with the singer of the band, Hank Thompson. Later J. T. did make a date with Pat and after a wonderful courtship they married in 1939. They moved to Dallas and owned and operated a restaurant in downtown Dallas until J.T. began working for Chance Vaught. Pat was a homemaker until 1956 when she joined the accounting division of J. C. Penny Regional Offices. She retired in the early 1970s. She and J. T. moved to Lewisville in 1965. They were members of St. Philip Catholic Church and she was active in the Lady Knights of Columbus, the Republican Women's Club, RSVP, Meals on Wheels, Lewisville Hospital Volunteers, and numerous other organizations. She loved gardening, playing bridge, and dancing which she and J. T. continued until J. T. was 90. Pat was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 67 years and grandson, Michael Marek. She is survived by daughter Diane Barfield and husband Danny of League City, TX; Joseph T. Marek II of Dallas; Michael A. Marek of Carrollton; grandchildren Robert Barfield and wife Jennifer of Seabrook, TX, Derek Barfield of Clear Lake Shores, TX; Emily Montgomery and husband Bill and great grandchildren Sean and Kyle of Louisville, KY. The family requests donations to St. Philip Knights of Columbus Homeless Fund in lieu of flowers. Visitation 2-4 p.m. Sunday March 11 at the Mulkey Mason Funeral Home in Lewisville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Philip Catholic Church, 1897 W. Main St. Lewisville on Monday March 12 at 10:00 a.m.
