Obituary

Opal Bass Lynch, 84, of Denton, TX passed away Tuesday, November 18, 2008 at Denton Regional Medical Center with her daughters at her side.

Opal was born November 2, 1924 in Shelbyville, TN.  She was the eighth of thirteen children born to Sion D. and Alice Ruth (Kimmons) Bass.  Opal married her childhood sweetheart and World War II veteran, Robert "Bob" W. Lynch, in Wartrace, TN on November 14, 1947.  They moved to Texas in 1951 where they raised their two daughters.  Bob and Opal were married for 23 years before he succumbed to cancer.

Opal retired at the age of 75 from her position as Vice President of the Valley Federal Credit Union in Brownsville, TX where she resided for over 45 years.  She moved to Denton, TX to be closer to her family and to enjoy her retirement at the Lake Forest Good Samaritan Village.

Opal was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Colonial Dames and the Huguenot Society.  She served as a hostess in the USO during World War II in Nashville, TN.  Opal loved cooking and tending her garden.  She was an avid football fan from the high school to professional level.  Opal had a zest for life that was contagious.

A memorial service is scheduled for 2pm on Saturday, November 22, 2008 at the Wartrace Baptist Church located at 105 Vine Street in Wartrace, TN. She will be laid to rest in Hazel Cemetery in Bell Buckle, TN next to the love of her life, Bob Lynch.

Opal will be greatly missed by her loving daughters, Kathy DuBose and husband, Andrew, of Denton, TX; Barbara Lynn Lynch Tumlinson and husband, Vic, of Brazoria, TX; sister, Ann Avery of Nashville, TN; brother, Sion Bass of Marietta, GA; four grandchildren, Kim Lynch Moore and husband, Clay, of Lake Dallas, TX; Gray Garza of Austin, TX; Jennifer Haas and husband, Ash, of Los Angeles, CA;  Kristy Tumlinson and husband, Justin Blew, of San Antonio, TX; and two great grandchildren, Liam and Gladys Haas of Los Angeles, CA; her beloved puppy dog, Amber; many friends and extended family.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society; MD Anderson Cancer Center; or the American Diabetes Association.
