Obituary

Niurca Aida de los Dolores (Maestri) Herrera, 74, of Denton, died Saturday, January 14, 2017 at Denton Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Herrera was born on May 21, 1942 in Havana, Cuba to Jose Anibal Maestri and Ofelia Maria (Garcia) Maestri. She was married to Adalberto Jairo Herrera on October 2, 1960 in Havana, Cuba.
Mrs. Herrera immigrated to the United States with her mother at the age of 16 and arrived in New York City. She met her husband on her 18th birthday in 1960. They were married just a few short months after and were married for 47 years before he was called to be with the Lord. They moved to Yonkers, NY in 1970 where they raised their three daughters. They moved to McKinney TX in 2005 to be in a warmer climate and closer to their daughter Maureen and her young child. She worked in many different jobs throughout her life but her greatest joy was working with children in the Mother's Day Out Program at Christ Fellowship Church in McKinney, TX until 2012 when she fought and overcame Lymphoma. She continued to love on people daily. She was loved by many and will be missed.
She is survived by her daughters, Yvonne (Herrera) Alvarez and son in law Walter Alvarez of Stroudsberg, PA, Maureen Herrera and son in law Luis Fernando Sanchez of Corinth, TX, Niurka (Herrera) Costantini and son in law Anthony Costantini of Yonkers, NY; six grandchildren Christopher Alvarez, Bryan Alvarez, Rebekka Valentin, Emma Johnson, Michael Johnson and Lachlan Johnson; two great-grandchildren Isabelle Alvarez and BellaSakina Perry.
She is preceded in death by her husband Adalberto Herrera, her brother Hector Anibal Maestri, her mother and her father.
There will be a memorial service to celebrate her life on Monday, January 30, 2017 at 2pm at Dogwood Estates, 2829 Wind River Lane, Denton, TX.
Her ashes will be laid to rest alongside her husband at Miami Memorial Park, Miami, FL.
In Lieu of flowers, a donation to the St. Jude's Children's Hospital would be appreciated.
